All work environments comprise some form of teamwork, and as a Digital Marketing Intern at IPP Technologies this is applicable in my situation too. Here, I work with teammates from different departments to develop marketing plans for Tiny Red Box, among other products. My strong teamwork skills include my willingness to listen, speak and give feedback. I feel that creating such a culture helps me increase the team’s productivity in due course. On the contrary, the weakness I have observed in myself is the lack of confidence to be the first speaker in group conversations. Hence, I let others direct the interaction even when I know I have something useful to say.
As substantiated by West (2012), effective teamwork requires not only teamwork but also productive individual work. Everyone in the team should be able to promote their ideas and still work towards the objectives of the team. To improve in this area, I have made it my responsibility to come to say meetings ready to talk and explain my positions with the appropriate level of confidence-Such should not have been the case before now. Besides, it is my intention to pay more attention to the comments to fulfill my personal ambition.
Reflection: The experience has been educative as I understood that being a passive member of the teams bottlenecks my participation and development. It has been observed that with increasing participation in team discussions, there is concurrent progress in my confidence and the level of teamwork. In the future, I intend to work on strengthening my leadership during group efforts so as to develop into a more holistic and productive team member.
